Ep 5. Swordfish! Part 2

In this episode of Saving the Ocean, we continue our exploration into the world of Swordfish conservation. We start off by joining marine expert and adventurer, Carl Safina, as he sets out on a fishing trip with some local fishermen. Their goal is to catch a Swordfish in a sustainable way, in order to show that it can be done without harming the species or the environment.

They are working on a unique initiative that aims to rescue and release Swordfish that are accidentally caught by longliners. Back in the United States, we visit the Mystic Aquarium in Connecticut, where Dr. Tracy Romano and her team are studying the behavior and physiology of Swordfish in captivity. They are using their research to better understand the species and to develop ways to protect it in the wild. We get an inside look at life in the aquarium and see the amazing Swordfish up close.

Finally, we return to the open sea, as the team from the Blue Marlin Project heads out on a mission to rescue a Swordfish that has been accidentally caught by a longliner. We see the dramatic and challenging process of cutting the fish free and releasing it back into the ocean. It's a tense and emotional experience, but it's also a powerful reminder of the importance of protecting these majestic creatures and the fragile marine ecosystems they inhabit.
