Ep 1. Opening Night

The third season of Schitt's Creek kicks off with a bang in the episode titled 'Opening Night.' After the events of the previous season, the Rose family is finally settling into their new lives in Schitt's Creek. Johnny Rose (played by Eugene Levy) is still running the Rosebud Motel business and trying to turn it into a success. His son David (Dan Levy) is focused on his love life, starting a new relationship with the town vet, Patrick (played by Noah Reid).

The main story of the episode revolves around the town's theater production of Cabaret, which Johnny has agreed to finance. When the lead actress drops out at the last minute, the director (played by Kevin Hanchard) turns to David to fill in the role of the emcee. David reluctantly agrees, knowing full well that he has no experience on stage. With the help of his supportive family, including his sister Alexis (Annie Murphy) and his mother Moira (Catherine O'Hara), David sets out to conquer his stage fright and give a dazzling performance.

Meanwhile, Johnny is dealing with his own drama as he tries to secure a loan to expand the motel business. But after striking out at the local bank, Johnny turns to his ex-business partner and longtime rival, Roland Schitt (played by Chris Elliott), for help. The two men have a complicated history, but Johnny is desperate for the loan and willing to do whatever it takes to achieve his goals.

Throughout the episode, we see the Rose family come together to support one another, both in their personal lives and in their business ventures. David's stage performance is not the only highlight of the episode - there are plenty of comedic moments as well, including Moira's over-the-top costume choices for the production and a hilarious subplot involving Alexis and her new boyfriend, Ted (played by Dustin Milligan).

As always, the writing on Schitt's Creek is sharp and witty, making for a perfect mix of heartwarming family moments and laugh-out-loud comedy. The third season opener sets the tone for what is sure to be another fantastic season of this underrated gem of a show.
