Johnny and Moira are up early and enthusiastic about opening day at the new motel. They're convinced it's going to be a success, especially considering the four busloads of tourists that have just arrived on their doorstep. David, meanwhile, is wallowing in bed beside his ex-boyfriend Jake. The two of them are in a post-breakup malaise that's preventing David from going out and supporting his parents' new venture.

At the café, Stevie is dealing with a tough crowd of older ladies who are visiting town on a quilting retreat. They're cranky, they're demanding, and they're making Stevie's life hell. In desperation, she turns to David for backup. Although he initially refuses, eventually the lure of an attractive quilting enthusiast gets him out of bed and down to the café.

Meanwhile, Alexis is feeling a little left out of the Schitt's Creek social scene. She's been spending time with Mutt, which is going well, but she doesn't feel like she's really part of the town's fabric. At Ted's urging, she tries to make friends with some local girls, but they mercilessly make fun of her for being from the city. Dejected, she decides to drown her sorrows in a bottle of wine.

As the day progresses, it's becoming clear that the motel's opening isn't going quite as planned. There's a mix-up with the room reservations, forcing Johnny to put up some of the guests in his own house. Meanwhile, David is hitting it off with one of the quilting ladies, Gwen, but she's really there to see Stevie. Stevie is annoyed that David's swooping in on her potential new friend, but ultimately forgives him.

Just when things seem like they couldn't get any weirder, Johnny and Moira realize that one of the couples staying in their motel is actually a "throuple" - three people in a committed relationship. Johnny of course can't handle it, but Moira is intrigued. As the night wears on, tensions come to a head. Alexis shows up drunk at the motel and interrupts Moira's conversation with the throuple. David and Gwen get into a fight over Gwen's true intentions. And the hotel guests start to complain about the noise coming from the throuple's room.

The final straw comes when Johnny discovers a dead animal floating in the motel pool. He's beside himself, convinced that this is the end of their venture. But somehow, all of the guests pitch in to help clean up the mess. The throuple apologizes for causing a ruckus, David and Gwen reconcile, and even Stevie's quilting ladies show a softer side. Everything seems to be wrapped up in a neat little bow...except for the animal in the pool, which Johnny is still a little traumatized about.

Overall, "The Throuple" is a classic Schitt's Creek episode that showcases the show's talent for mixing heart with humor. The characters are as bold and outlandish as always, but there are some real moments of vulnerability and kindness that make this show stand out. It's a must-watch for fans of quirky, character-driven comedy.
