JD and Elliott are at opposite ends while dealing with a patient, whom they both like. On the other hand, Carla and Turk take a rabbit to a lab to ensure it gets a proper diagnosis and treatment. Meanwhile, Dr. Cox realizes that he is an out-of-touch doctor, who is not up-to-date with the latest medical information. He starts to panic and tries to regain his knowledge. Dr. Kelso sees the rabbit and shows his rare affection towards the animal and is proud of Carla and Turk's decision to bring it to the lab.
The episode begins with JD and Elliot discussing their patient, Sam. They both like him, but they can't seem to agree on the right course of action. JD wants to treat Sam with drugs, but Elliot believes he needs surgery. The two bicker back and forth until Dr. Cox arrives and essentially tells them to grow up.
In the meantime, Carla and Turk are dealing with a mischievous rabbit. The hospital’s janitor found the rabbit in the parking lot and brought it to the hospital, where Carla and Turk decided to take it to a lab to get a proper diagnosis and treatment.
As Dr. Cox struggles with being out-of-touch, he finds himself asking for advice from the most unlikely of sources – JD. JD helps Cox to regain his composure by reminding him of why he became a doctor in the first place - because he wants to help people.
As the day wears on, JD realizes that he too is out-of-touch, as he is still examining Sam using outdated methods. Elliot, on the other hand, has realized that her surgery-first approach was wrong and they should have tried drugs first. Dr. Cox, however, has regained his touch and has figured out what is wrong with Sam - and it has nothing to do with either JD or Elliot's approaches.
The episode concludes with Dr. Kelso seeing the rabbit and showing his rare affection towards it. He then turns to Turk and Carla and says that he's proud of them for taking the rabbit to the lab. Turk, however, has to confess that the rabbit was a welcome break from the work, and they weren't trying to do anything heroic. Meanwhile, JD and Elliot finally agree on the right course of action for Sam.
