Meanwhile, the group must also contend with internal conflicts, as their newfound knowledge of this world's history and culture challenges their own beliefs and values. Wade, in particular, struggles with the idea of a world where women are seen as inferior to men, and where technology is shunned.

In the end, the travelers are able to clear Colin's name and prevent the assassination of the king, but not without paying a heavy price. The experience leaves them shaken, and they realize that they can never fully know or understand the worlds they slide into. As they leave this world behind, they wonder what new challenges and conflicts await them in their next destination.
