Ep 17. All That Glisters

The year is 1999 and humanity has established a base on the moon known as Moonbase Alpha. However, disaster strikes when a nuclear waste dump on the moon explodes, causing the moon to be blasted out of Earth's orbit and sent hurtling through space. The inhabitants of Moonbase Alpha are now in a perpetual state of wandering the universe, encountering new planets and alien civilizations as they try to survive and find a way back home.

In the season 2 episode "All That Glisters," the Alphans come across a planet that appears to be rich in valuable minerals. Commander Koenig orders a team to be sent down to investigate, with Alan Carter, Maya, and Bill Fraser accompanying him.

Upon arrival, the team discovers a cave filled with crystals that emit high levels of radiation. While collecting samples, they encounter a strange, metallic creature that appears to be attracted to the crystals. Alan and Bill manage to capture the creature and bring it back to Moonbase Alpha for study.

However, when the creature is examined, it begins to rapidly multiply and grow, eventually taking over the entire base. It is revealed that the creature is a living metal organism that feeds on energy and has the ability to replicate itself. As the creature continues to grow, it becomes more and more powerful, leading to a desperate race against time to find a way to stop it before it destroys everything.

Meanwhile, Maya begins to experience strange visions and dreams, which seem to be connected to the metallic creature. She discovers that she has the ability to communicate with it and learns that it is not inherently evil, but is simply acting on its instinct to survive and multiply.

As the situation becomes increasingly dire, Commander Koenig and the rest of the crew must work together to come up with a plan to defeat the creature and save Moonbase Alpha. But with the creature's power continuing to grow and no clear solution in sight, it may be too late to save themselves from being consumed by its metallic tendrils.

"All That Glisters" is a thrilling episode that pits the Alphans against a seemingly unstoppable foe. With its unique blend of science fiction and horror elements, this episode stands out as a particularly memorable installment of the Space 1999 series.
