Ryouma's first day with the soft tennis club continues in episode 2 of Stars Align. As the new coach, Toma Shinjo, continues to push the team towards improvement, Ryouma is introduced to some of the other members, including the team captain, Maki Katsuragi.
Maki is initially dismissive of Ryouma, but after witnessing his skills on the court, agrees to take him seriously as a potential asset to the team. Meanwhile, Hokuto and his sister, Hikari, struggle with the fallout of their father's emotional instability and gambling addiction, which has left them without a stable home.
In an effort to help his sister, Hokuto begins selling goods at school to make extra money. However, this leads to conflict with the school administration, who are cracking down on students making unsanctioned sales.
As the episode progresses, Ryouma's past is slowly revealed, including the reasons for his initial reluctance to join the club. The other members begin to see that Ryouma is more than just a talented player, and that he has a passion for the sport that runs deep.
The episode culminates in a friendly match between the newly-formed team and a rival school. As the players take to the court, the tension is palpable and the outcome uncertain. Despite this, the players continue to push themselves to their limits and strive for victory.
