Jethro Bodine, the dim-witted but lovable nephew of the Clampett family, decides he wants to follow in his cousin Elly May's footsteps and attend college. Despite the family's initial skepticism, they eventually agree to let Jethro pursue his dream and enroll him in a night school program.

As Jethro dives headfirst into the world of academia, he quickly realizes that college is not quite what he expected. From struggling to keep up with his classes to getting caught up in campus politics, Jethro faces a whole new set of challenges that he never encountered back in his rural home.

Meanwhile, the rest of the Clampett family finds themselves at a loss without their resident "brain trust." Granny tries to take over Jethro's duties as the family's handyman, but her antics only lead to more chaos and confusion. Meanwhile, Mr. Drysdale frets over losing his valuable member of the Beverly Hills banking community.

Throughout it all, Jethro remains determined to prove himself a success in college. With the help of some newfound friends, he begins to fit in at school and even manages to impress his professors. However, when he is tasked with delivering a speech at a campus event, Jethro's nerves get the best of him and he must rely on his family to help him through.

In the end, Jethro learns that success is not just about academic achievement, but also about being true to oneself and following one's passions. The episode ends with Jethro returning home to Beverly Hills, grateful for the experience but ready to resume his life as a proud hillbilly.
