Ep 17. Will You Two Be My Wife?

Rob and Laura Petrie are each other's soulmates, and there's no doubt about it. But things take a hilarious turn in season 2 episode 17 of The Dick Van Dyke Show, titled "Will You Two Be My Wife?"

When Laura and Rob meet a wealthy man named Alan Brady for lunch, they're excited at the prospect of making a new friend. But soon after, Alan can't seem to take his eyes off of Laura, and he starts to behave strangely around her. When he asks her out on a date, Rob is understandably protective and forbids her from going, leading to a tense argument.

Meanwhile, Laura starts to feel guilty for turning down Alan's advances because he seems like such a nice guy. To make matters worse, Alan's business partner, George, tells Rob that Alan is heartbroken because he recently got divorced. The situation becomes even more complicated when Laura and Rob find out that Alan is hosting a party and has invited Laura as his guest of honor.

Laura feels obligated to attend the party, causing Rob to become increasingly suspicious and jealous. He decides to follow her to Alan's mansion, where he finds her alone in a room with Alan, the two of them sitting next to each other on a couch. Rob immediately becomes enraged, convinced that Laura is cheating on him.

It's only after he storms out of the room and comes face-to-face with George that he discovers the truth: Alan isn't interested in Laura romantically, but instead, he wants to ask her to be his wife. George explains that Alan is incredibly wealthy and very lonely, and he's been searching for the perfect wife for years. Somehow, he's convinced that Laura is the one.

Rob is left speechless by this revelation, but he realizes that he's been foolish and overreacted. He and Laura reconcile, and he even agrees to help Alan propose to Laura by staging a fake kidnapping, so that Alan can sweep in and save the day like a hero.

The plan goes awry, of course, but all is well in the end. Alan finally finds the wife he's been looking for, Laura and Rob's marriage is stronger than ever, and everyone gets a good laugh at the absurdity of it all.

As with all episodes of The Dick Van Dyke Show, "Will You Two Be My Wife?" is filled with hilarious one-liners, witty banter, and impeccable comedic timing.
