Ep 27. October Eve

Rob and Laura Petrie are back for another hilarious episode of The Dick Van Dyke Show season 3. In episode 27 entitled "October Eve," viewers are taken on a journey with Rob and his wife as they prepare to attend a dinner party hosted by their good friends, the Frisbies.

As they dress for the party, Laura is dismayed to discover that she has nothing to wear that will impress the Frisbies. After all, the Frisbies are a sophisticated couple who host elegant dinner parties, and Laura worries that she will look like a bumpkin in comparison.

Rob tries to reassure her, but when they arrive at the party, Laura's worst fears are realized. The Frisbies' house is filled with famous works of art, and the guests are dressed in formal wear. Laura feels completely out of place in her simple dress and heels.

Despite her discomfort, Laura tries to make the best of the situation, chatting with the other guests and enjoying the delicious food. But things take a turn for the worse when the power goes out, leaving everyone in complete darkness.

As they wait for the power to come back on, the guests decide to play a game of charades. Things start off well, but when it is Laura's turn to act out a word, the others are completely stumped. Laura insists that they should be able to guess the word easily, since it's a common artistic term.

When the other guests ask her to reveal the word, Laura realizes that it is "nude." Embarrassed, she tries to backtrack, insisting that she wasn't thinking when she chose the word. However, the damage has been done, and the other guests can't stop laughing.

Feeling humiliated, Laura retreats to the bathroom, where she tries to compose herself. However, things only get worse when one of the guests mistakes her for a hired help and asks her to serve drinks.

Feeling like an outsider, Laura confides in Rob about how embarrassed she feels. Rob assures her that he loves her just the way she is, and they decide to make a hasty exit before they embarrass themselves any further.

As they walk out the door, Rob catches a glimpse of one of the famous paintings in the Frisbies' house and realizes that it is a nude portrait. Suddenly, everything clicks into place, and he understands why Laura chose that word for the game of charades.

Despite the humiliation, Rob and Laura are able to find the humor in the situation and laugh about it on the way home. As they arrive back at their own house, they are met with yet another surprise, but this one is much more pleasant: their friend Jerry has stopped by with a gift of a beautiful dress for Laura.

All in all, "October Eve" is a lighthearted episode that pokes fun at the social anxieties and insecurities that we all feel from time to time. With its witty writing and charming performances from the cast, this episode is sure to delight fans of The Dick Van Dyke Show.
