Ep 25. The Way We Met

The Way We Met episode of The Golden Girls season 1 takes a look back at the way the four ladies met each other and began sharing a home in Miami. Each person thinks that they came across as the mature and reserved one, while everyone else was wild and boisterous. However, the reality is that they were all more similar than they knew and their relationship quickly blossomed into close friendship.

We find out that their first year together was not without challenges, like when Rose was fired from her job as a grief counselor because she had been accepting various items as payment, including a live chicken at one point. And when Blanche borrowed Dorothy's car for a date and ended up getting arrested for solicitation. But despite these and other bumps in the road, the three of them had built a deep bond with each other.

Finally, the ladies reminisce about how Sophia came to live with them. Sophia tells her own story of how her nursing home burned down, followed by her not wanting to move back in with her daughter, as their relationship is somewhat strained. After various trials, she interrupts a date between Dorothy and a millionaire who she deems to be too old. She quickly moves in with the girls shortly after. The ladies initially had concerns about having someone who was older living with them, but Sophia proved to be just as feisty and fun-loving as the rest of them, and their dynamic became even stronger with her around.

Overall, the episode is a celebration of their friendship and how they all came together despite their different backgrounds and personalities. It gives us an interesting backstory to each of the ladies and provides insights into their motives for living together as roommates. The Golden Girls season 1 episode 25 brings all these elements together with humor and warmth to create an episode that is both entertaining and touching.
