Ep 6. Sophia's Wedding (1)

Blanche's father, Big Daddy Hollingsworth, surprises the women with a visit to Miami, announcing he has sold his house and is moving to a retirement community there. As the group talks over coffee, Sophia receives a call from an old gentleman friend from Sicily, Augustine Bagatelli, who tells her he is coming to Miami for her. Sophia begins to panic, revealing she ran off from Augustine when they were supposed to get married in Sicily nearly sixty years ago. Augustine has written several letters throughout that time, but Sophia never responded. She tells the women she was too scared and still doesn't know if she wants to see him. The women convince Sophia to face her fears and see Augustine, telling her she'll regret it her entire life if she doesn't. Sophia agrees.

During a conversation at the kitchen table, Sophia reveals that in her youth, she was a size six and extremely beautiful, but Augustine still wanted her for her money and future inheritance, despite repeatedly telling her he loved her. Rose suggests that Sophia put on a good front and see what Augustine wants, saying that Sophia should at least accept a meal from him while he's in town.

The next day, Blanche's father, Big Daddy Hollingsworth, arrives at the women's house with a surprise. He is getting married that night at the house by a minister who is an old friend of the family. The wedding is a small affair, with only the women attending. Sophia serves as ring bearer and lets slip that she's seeing an old beau and reveals the story of how she ran off from her wedding with Augustine. Big Daddy gives Sophia advice, telling her not to let fear rule her life and to take what little happiness she can get. Sophia agrees, saying it's time to face her fears.

Sophia meets Augustine at the park, and she tells him the truth about why she left him at the altar so many years ago. Augustine tells her he knows everything, having received her non-response to his letters, and tells her he's come to Miami to see her at last. He proposes marriage to her again, and Sophia responds she isn't sure, but would love to have dinner with him.

As Sophia gets ready, Blanche, Dorothy and Rose do her hair and makeup and choose a fabulous outfit for her. Sophia enters the living room to find both Augustine and Big Daddy there. Augustine tells Sophia he understands if she doesn't want to marry him and that he just wants to spend time with her. Sophia has a chance to talk to Big Daddy alone, and he tells Sophia that Augustine isn't after her money as he's a millionaire. He also explains that she is still in love with Augustine, but she's afraid to accept it, and when she's alone, she'll wish she had taken the chance.

Sophia and Augustine leave for dinner, and as they leave, Blanche, Dorothy, and Rose watch from the porch. Blanche remarks that Sophia looks stunning, and Rose reveals that Augustine asked for a tray of salmon and crackers for dinner, which they all find amusing. They spot Sophia and Augustine running down the street, hand-in-hand like kids. As the women watch, they can see Sophia is happy and has finally found her true love.

Sophia returns home the next day, and the women encourage her to tell them everything about the night before. Sophia reveals that she and Augustine may get married, and she's excited. Blanche makes a toast to happiness, and Sophia toasts to taking chances.
