Ep 9. The Devil's Refugee

Cassie Bedford is a psychic and can communicate with spirits of dead people. In the ninth episode of The InBetween titled "The Devil's Refugee," Cassie and Tom Hackett work together to solve a deadly mystery.

The plot revolves around Cassie and Tom being called to investigate a homicide case. A former member of a cult is found dead on a cliff. They start their investigation and it doesn't take long for them to realise that the victim was a member of a group that had set up a commune, which had been disband a while ago.

Cassie sees visions while holding the victim's worn, old shoes. She sees a woman who talks about a dangerous man who killed her. The vision gives Cassie an important lead in the case. She and Tom start digging deeper into the case, and it quickly becomes clear that the members of the disbanded cult are all at risk.

Cassie talks to her sister who is still a member of the cult and discovers some shocking truths about the group, including that the leader, Ezra, has returned, and he desires rule over the group again.

As they investigate, they confront the members of the cult, who are hiding information from them, but they do not get discouraged. They get help from some sources close to them, including the FBI and the cult leader’s ex-wife. The group must work together to gather as much information as possible and figure out who killed the victim on the cliff and why.

The story leads Cassie and Tom to find that the killer is someone they did not expect. They race against time to capture the killer before he strikes again, putting themselves in grave danger in the process.

"The Devil's Refugee" is an intriguing episode that keeps viewers on their toes. The plot is intricate, and the show's characters are engaging. It’s an episode that explores the darker side of human beings and how easily they can be swayed to do evil things in the name of misguided beliefs.
