Ep 1. Episode 1

The Kettering Incident centers around the disappearance of a local woman, Anna, in a small town in Tasmania. Episode 1 introduces us to the small community of Kettering, where Anna grew up and where she went missing. Dr. Anna Macy, played by Elizabeth Debicki, returns to the town after 15 years away to help care for her sick father. She left Kettering as a teenager after her best friend Gillian went missing, and the town's suspicion fell on Anna.

As the episode unfolds, we see that Anna is haunted by memories of Gillian's disappearance, and she struggles with her own reliability as a witness. Her return to Kettering sparks old rumors and mysteries, and her own nightmares may be coming to life. At a festival in the town, Anna has flashbacks and visions that suggest a history of traumatic events. One flashback that stands out is when she's visiting Gillian's house when she hears a strange noise coming from the woods. She follows it and comes across a strange glowing light before running away in terror.

Anna's flashbacks are further complicated by the revelation that she has epilepsy and has been on medication for it. Her doctor advises her not to drink, as alcohol and stress can trigger seizures. Anna starts to think that her medication may be affecting her memory and that the town may be hiding something sinister.

The townspeople are also introduced in Episode 1, including Anna's father Max, who runs a logging company, and her childhood friend Fergus, who is now the town's sheriff. Fergus is investigating the recent deaths of green glow bugs, which has led to conflict between the environmentalists and the loggers, who deny responsibility. As the community starts to fall apart, it seems like everyone has a secret, and things are not as they appear.

The opening episode sets up a tense and eerie atmosphere that only grows as the series progresses. There are hints of an otherworldly phenomenon, but also evidence of more human evil. Anna's unwavering determination to find out what really happened to Gillian, and now Anna, proves to be an engrossing narrative as she confronts her past and the town's ghosts. By the end of Episode 1, it's clear that Kettering is a place where the truth is hard to come by, and some things are best left buried.
