Ep 8. False Colors

The Young Riders is a Western drama series set in the late 1800s following the adventures of a group of young pony express riders in Kansas. The eighth episode of season 1 is titled False Colors.

In this episode, we see Jimmy Hickok, one of the young riders, in a tough spot. He has been sent on a mission to deliver a package to an Army spy stationed at Fort Wallace, but things go wrong when he is forced to take refuge in a local farmstead during a thunderstorm. The farmstead he seeks refuge in is run by a Confederate sympathizer named Mrs. Dupont and her teenage daughter, Lily. Jimmy is unaware of their politics and gets comfortable with them, while not revealing his true identity.

Meanwhile, Buck Cross, another young rider, is tasked with finding Jimmy and delivering a message to him as soon as possible since their mission is critical for the Union's success in the Civil War. Buck searches for Jimmy under the guise of being a traveling salesman, but he, too, ends up staying at Mrs. Dupont's farmstead. Buck soon sets his eyes on Lily, and she on him, further complicating matters.

When Jimmy finally finds out the truth about the Duponts, he realizes he is in grave danger. The situation escalates when Lily's brother, a Confederate soldier, returns home. Jimmy and Buck must find a way to complete their mission and leave without being caught by the Confederates.

The tension builds up throughout the episode as Jimmy and Buck find themselves in increasingly challenging situations. False Colors is a thrilling episode that showcases the young riders' bravery and resourcefulness, as well as their commitment to their duties as Union soldiers during a chaotic time in American history.
