In This Is Us season 2 episode 2, titled "A Manny-Splendored Thing," the Pearson family is still coping with Jack's death, particularly his widow Rebecca (Mandy Moore) as she struggles to move on and start anew after the loss. Meanwhile, her grown-up children, Kevin (Justin Hartley), Kate (Chrissy Metz), and Randall (Sterling K. Brown), face their own challenges as they try to figure out their own lives.

Kevin, a struggling actor, is now a household name after his role in the popular TV series "The Manny," but his newfound fame comes at a price. He's not sure if he wants to continue playing the role of a goofy superhero, and he's also dealing with the fallout from his ex-wife Sophie (Alexandra Breckenridge), whom he cheated on. Sophie is in town to finalize their divorce, and Kevin tries to win her back.

Kate, on the other hand, is dealing with her own self-doubts as she tries to pursue her dream of becoming a singer. She's insecure about her weight and doesn't believe she's good enough to perform in public. She finds solace in her boyfriend Toby (Chris Sullivan), who supports her and encourages her to follow her dreams.

Randall, who recently discovered that his biological father William (Ron Cephas Jones) is dying of cancer, is struggling to come to terms with the news and also deal with his own anxiety. He's also trying to balance work and family, as his wife Beth (Susan Kelechi Watson) is dealing with her own career challenges.

As the episode progresses, we see the Pearson family come together to support each other through their individual struggles. Rebecca tries to move forward by starting a band with Miguel (Jon Huertas), Jack's best friend and her new husband. Kevin's family and friends rally around him as he confronts his demons and tries to win back Sophie. Kate faces her fears and performs in front of a crowd, much to everyone's delight. And Randall and Beth try to navigate their own personal challenges while still being there for their kids and each other.

Throughout the episode, we're also shown glimpses of the past as we see Jack and Rebecca's relationship unfold. We see how they met, fell in love, and started their family, and we're reminded of the love and bond that held them together. These flashbacks serve as a poignant reminder of what the family has lost, but also as a testament to their resilience and strength in the face of tragedy.

Overall, "A Manny-Splendored Thing" is a heartfelt and emotional episode that showcases the Pearson family at their best and worst. It's a reminder that no matter how hard things get, they always have each other to rely on.
