Time is a British television drama series created by Jimmy McGovern and produced by BBC One. The show revolves around the lives of three main characters: Mark Cobden, played by Sean Bean, a middle-aged former teacher convicted of a drunk-driving accident that resulted in the death of a young girl, and two prison officers, Eric McNally, portrayed by James Nelson-Joyce and Daniel McNulty, played by Stephen Graham. Hannah Walters, Siobhan Finneran, and Nadine Marshall also star in the show as supporting characters.

At the beginning of the series, we see Mark Cobden being sentenced to four years in prison. We then get a glimpse into the daily lives of prison officers Eric McNally and Daniel McNulty, who have to deal with the harsh realities of their jobs, including violence, drug use, and mental illness among the inmates. Despite their challenging working environment, both men remain dedicated to their jobs and try their best to make a difference in the lives of the prisoners.

The show explores a range of themes including redemption, forgiveness, corruption, and the flawed British criminal justice system. Mark Cobden's character arc is particularly compelling, as we see him struggle to come to terms with his terrible crime and the devastating consequences it has had not only on his victim's family but also on his own life. Sean Bean delivers a powerful performance in the role, bringing depth and complexity to a character who is often unlikable and hard to sympathize with.

Hannah Walters, Siobhan Finneran, and Nadine Marshall all play female characters who have important roles to play in the show. Walters plays the role of Sonia McNally, Eric's wife, who supports her husband through his struggles at work but also has to deal with her own personal demons. Finneran is excellent as the complex and manipulative prison governor Marie-Louise Hutchinson, who is all about maintaining order and control in the prison, regardless of the cost. Nadine Marshall is also impressive in her portrayal of prison chaplain, Angela McCrimmon, who tries to offer comfort and support to the prisoners but is often met with skepticism and hostility.

The show is beautifully shot, with each episode showcasing the gritty and claustrophobic prison environment in a way that feels both realistic and cinematic. The writing is also top-notch, with every episode bringing new twists and turns that keep the audience engaged and invested in the story. The show is not afraid to tackle difficult and thought-provoking issues, and it handles them with sensitivity and intelligence.

Overall, Time is an excellent drama series that is well worth watching. With strong performances, smart writing, and a compelling story, it is a standout addition to the BBC's lineup of shows. Whether you are a fan of prison dramas, character-driven stories, or simply great television, Time is a must-see.
