Tracey Takes On is a satirical comedy series created by and starring Tracey Ullman. The show features Ullman playing a variety of characters and taking on a range of different topical issues. Season 1, episode 8 is titled "Royalty" and sees Ullman's characters exploring the world of the British monarchy.

The episode begins with Ullman's character Kay, a working-class woman from Liverpool, winning a competition to have tea with the Queen. Kay is thrilled at the opportunity to meet the monarch, and spends the whole day preparing for her big moment, buying a new outfit and practicing her curtsy.

When Kay finally arrives at Buckingham Palace, she is disappointed to discover that her meet-and-greet with the Queen is actually being held at a local community center, and that she will only get to see the monarch from a distance. Nevertheless, Kay is excited to be in the same room as the Queen, and begins to get emotional as the royal procession enters.

Next, we see Ullman's character Linda Granger, a self-described "royal enthusiast," hosting a group of American tourists on a tour of London's royal landmarks. Linda is a member of a local organization devoted to the celebration of all things royal, and she takes her role as ambassador for the monarchy very seriously.

As Linda guides her guests around the city, she regales them with tales of the royal family's history, and is quick to shut down any dissenting opinions about the monarchy. But when the group comes across a group of anti-royalist protesters, Linda finds herself facing some uncomfortable questions about the role of the monarchy in modern society.

Meanwhile, Ullman's character Janie Pillsworth, a former debutante and now a member of the aristocracy, is attending a charity ball. Janie is determined to make a good impression on the assembled guests, all of whom are potential marriage prospects for her eligible son.

After spending the evening schmoozing with various lords and ladies, Janie finally catches the eye of a handsome duke. But when she discovers that he is actually a plumber who has been hired as entertainment for the evening, she is horrified and quickly tries to distance herself from him.

Finally, the episode features Ullman's character Chic, a flamboyant fashion designer who has been commissioned to create a dress for Princess Diana. Chic is thrilled to be working with the royal family, but quickly realizes that the dress he has designed is not to the Queen's taste.

As Chic tries to salvage his outfit, he comes into conflict with the Queen's formidable dresser, who he describes as a "harrying harridan." The resulting showdown is a hilarious battle of wills between two ego-driven characters.

Overall, "Royalty" is a funny and irreverent take on the world of the British monarchs, poking fun at both the royals themselves and the people who obsess over them. With Ullman's usual impeccable comic timing and a range of memorable characters, this episode is a highlight of an already strong season.
