In True Blood season 1 episode 2, titled "The First Taste," Sookie Stackhouse continues her job at Merlotte's Bar and Grill while secretly pining for the handsome vampire, Bill Compton. One night, while closing up the bar, Sookie is viciously attacked by a Rattray couple who seek to drain her of her blood. Luckily, Bill comes to her rescue and kills the Rattrays.

Sookie is grateful to Bill for saving her life and invites him to her house for some much-needed rest. While there, Bill explains to Sookie the rules of being a vampire, including the fact that vampire blood is an aphrodisiac to humans and can be dangerous if consumed too often. Sookie takes a small sip of Bill's blood and, to her surprise, experiences an intense sexual sensation.

Meanwhile, Sookie's brother, Jason, continues his wild lifestyle and gets mixed up with a group of drug dealers. He comes to Merlotte's looking for a place to hide, but his addiction causes him to betray Sookie and tell the dealers where she lives.

The episode also introduces the character of Lafayette Reynolds, a flamboyant cook at Merlotte's who deals drugs on the side. Lafayette becomes a suspect in a murder investigation and is shown to have a darker side than originally thought.

"The First Taste" sets the stage for the rest of the season, as Sookie and Bill's relationship deepens and the world of vampires becomes more dangerous and complex. It also showcases the supernatural elements that are central to the show's plot, including telepathy, shape-shifting, and mind control. Overall, this episode is an exciting and suspenseful installment that leaves viewers eager to see what happens next.
