At the vampire bar Fangtasia, Eric tasks Bill with finding a missing vampire named Longshadow, who has been embezzling money from the bar. Bill enlists Sookie's help and they discover Longshadow holed up in a hotel room with another local vampire named Daphne. A violent confrontation ensues, leading to unexpected consequences for Sookie.
Meanwhile, Sam's shapeshifting abilities are revealed to the audience, as he transforms into a dog and follows Sookie to the hotel room. Later, he confides in Tara that he's in love with Sookie, but she thinks that he's just looking for someone to rescue him from his troubled past.
