- May 24, 2012
In season 1, episode 26 of Undercover Boss: Abroad, we follow Lisa Lisson, the president of FedEx Canada, as she goes undercover to see how her company is operating and to connect with her employees on a personal level. As someone who has spent her entire career at FedEx, Lisa wants to make sure that the company continues to thrive and that her employees are happy.
The episode opens with Lisa explaining how she started at FedEx over 30 years ago as a part-time package handler and worked her way up to president. She admits that as she has progressed in her career, it has become harder to stay connected with the front-line employees who are the backbone of the company. She hopes that going undercover will give her a better understanding of what her employees go through on a daily basis.
To begin her undercover journey, Lisa takes on the role of a package handler at a FedEx sorting facility in Toronto. She quickly realizes how physically demanding the job is, as she struggles to keep up with the fast pace of the work and the constant lifting and carrying of packages. Lisa also sees how the package handlers work together as a team to make sure that packages are delivered on time, even when there are unexpected delays.
Next, Lisa travels to Vancouver to work with the FedEx Ground division. She takes on the role of a delivery driver, which is something she has never done before. Lisa begins to understand how challenging the job can be, as she navigates through traffic and makes multiple stops throughout the day. She also sees how important it is for drivers to have a good relationship with their customers, as they are the face of the company.
After her time in Vancouver, Lisa travels to Halifax to work with the FedEx Express division. Here she takes on the role of a courier, responsible for making deliveries to businesses and residential areas. Lisa realizes how important it is for couriers to be flexible and adaptable in their day-to-day work, as they often have to make changes on the fly to accommodate unexpected delays or changes in their schedule.
Throughout her undercover journey, Lisa has the chance to connect with many of her employees and hear their stories. She meets package handlers who are working long hours to support their families, delivery drivers who have faced unexpected challenges on the job, and couriers who have been with the company for years. Lisa sees how passionate her employees are about their work and how much they care about making sure that packages are delivered on time.
At the end of the episode, Lisa reveals her true identity to each of the employees she worked with and thanks them for their hard work and dedication to the company. She also announces that she will be making changes to help support her employees, including increasing the number of full-time positions and improving training and development programs. Lisa admits that her experience going undercover was eye-opening and that it reminded her of the importance of staying connected to the front-line employees who make FedEx the successful company it is today.
