Ep 3. Check Out Time

Carrie Wells is an NYPD detective, but her unique ability separates her from her peers. She has Hyperthymesia - a rare and spectacular medical condition that remembers everything that has ever happened to her. Carrie's amazing recall allows her to remember every detail of a crime, but remembering is one thing and reconstructing the events is another. Carrie's exceptional ability sometimes becomes a hindrance in her daily and personal life, keeping her stuck in the past. Carrie used to work in the NYPD as a detective in their Major Crimes Section until she walked away from the job and her former partner and lover for a break to a small town named Syracuse. There she worked as a bartender for some time, and when her ex came to bring her back, she changes her mind and decides to work in New York City again.

In episode 3 of Unforgettable named Check Out Time, Carrie is assigned a case when a hotel room attendant is found dead. The victim, Gary, is killed with a screwdriver in the hotel room where he worked. Carrie goes to the scene to investigate the case and goes through the room, finding that Gary was most likely watching someone through a hole in the wall. Carrie's team is put on the case, and they find out that Gary was working illegally, and the person renting the room forced him to do it. Carrie and her team had to detain the suspect without any evidence on him.

Carrie has flashbacks from her childhood and her mother's death during this episode. In the flashback, Carrie's mother is shown having an affair, which led to her father's suicide. Carrie connects her mother's affair to the current case about the perpetrator who was involved in infidelity and made Gary work illegally.

During the case, Al, the computer guy in the team, offers Carrie the option of scanning her memories to which she hesitates. However, Carrie gives in as her memory could play a vital role in tracking the suspect. Al, who was nervously excited about this opportunity, became disappointed in Carrie's memory's reliability as it was different from what he had initially thought.

The team analyzes Gary's financial records, and his credit card statements lead them to the suspect, who owns the credit card Gary used frequently for online payments. It is revealed that Gary, who was a member of a church, had an affair with the suspect's wife, and the husband, who was an ex-con, became violent as he found out. Carrie and the team tried to catch him with some troubling moments and twists.

In the end, Carrie's incredible memory helped the team to solve the case, catching the perpetrator, and they close the case successfully. Carrie's flashbacks kept her from shutting down during the investigation and helped solve this case, which has many twists. Her memory combined with her detective skills can help save lives and be an asset in the NYPD.
