Ep 20. What Happens in the Cave

SPOILER WARNING: This description contains spoilers for previous episodes of Vikings.

In What Happens in the Cave, the season finale of Vikings season 5, tensions between the various factions of the Vikings come to a head as they prepare for battle against Ivar and his army. Bjorn, Lagertha, and Ubbe join forces with Harald and his army to face Ivar's army, which is bolstered by the arrival of the Rus forces led by Prince Oleg.

Meanwhile, Floki and his small group of settlers in Iceland continue to struggle with the harsh new land they've arrived in. After the loss of Eyvind and his followers, Floki must confront the reality that the land may not be as hospitable as he had hoped. He ventures into a cave with an unsettling aura with a few of the settlers, hoping to find answers and solace.

Back in Kattegat, Hvitserk is struggling with the guilt of his actions in killing Lagertha's lover, Astrid. He confides in Ivar, who manipulates him into believing that he can redeem himself by fighting for their cause. Hvitserk begins to see visions of the deceased Ragnar, who tells him that he needs to find his own path and do what is right.

As the battle approaches, Lagertha makes a difficult decision about her fate in the fight. Bjorn also has a difficult choice to make as he realizes that he may need to betray someone he cares about in order to ensure victory for their side.

Meanwhile, Floki's exploration of the cave takes a strange turn as he becomes lost in the darkness and encounters a mysterious figure. His experience may hold the key to understanding the fate of his people in Iceland.

The episode builds to a tense and emotional climax as the two sides clash in a fierce battle. Lives are lost, alliances are broken, and the future of the Vikings hangs in the balance. As the dust settles, the survivors must grapple with the aftermath of their choices and begin to prepare for the challenges that lie ahead in the next chapter of their story.
