Ep 16. Lunar Eclipse of the Heart

Holly (played by Amanda Bynes) and Val (played by Jennie Garth) are back at it again in season 2 episode 16 of "What I Like About You." In "Lunar Eclipse of the Heart," the girls are in for a night of surprises as the lunar eclipse brings out their true feelings.

Val is excited for her date with Dr. Rick which she has planned for weeks. She is very nervous and trying to do everything right, but the evening takes an unexpected turn when Holly dumps her boyfriend Vince and shows up at their apartment in tears. She wants Val to come with her to a party being thrown by Vince's new girlfriend. Val objects to Holly's request because she's got her date with Dr. Rick, but eventually agrees to go with Holly because she feels obligated to support her sister. Holly reveals that Vince had planned another girl to go to the party with him even though he's been dating Holly for months.

At the party Holly feels uncomfortable and out of place, which leads her to do things she might not normally do. She starts drinking and hits on a guy named Ben, who has been giving her plenty of attention throughout the night. Meanwhile, Val is trying her hardest to find a way to get out of the party and back to her date with Dr. Rick.

As the lunar eclipse begins, Holly kisses Ben in the hopes of making Vince jealous. However, Val witnesses the kiss and is horrified at her sister's behavior. Holly is not someone who usually acts on a whim and Val is concerned. Val decides to share her thoughts with Holly, but it only makes her more upset. Holly feels like she's done nothing wrong and accuses Val of judging her. Val tries to explain that she's concerned for her, but Holly is only focused on her new "boyfriend."

As the party comes to a close, Holly realizes that she didn't really like Ben after all, but Vince shows up and takes her back to his place. At the same time, Val finally makes it home to her apartment only to find Dr. Rick waiting for her. They have a brief argument, but in the end, Dr. Rick ends up surprising Val and the two have a romantic evening together watching the rest of the lunar eclipse.

In "Lunar Eclipse of the Heart," Holly and Val's sisterly bond is tested but ultimately they both learn important lessons about themselves and each other. As they navigate through their separate experiences, they come to a better understanding of what they want and need in their relationships. The episode serves as a reminder that family can hurt you, but they can also help you heal.
