In season 3 episode 5 of What I Like About You titled "Split Ends," Holly's hair stylist suddenly passes away and she's forced to go to a new salon. At the new salon, Holly meets an attractive hairstylist named Simon who she immediately crushes on. Meanwhile, Val tries to impress Jeff with her cooking skills, but it's clear that her skills need some work.
When Holly goes back to the salon for another appointment, Simon tells her to come into the back room for a more private hair treatment. Holly is excited by the idea of a special treatment, but when she gets back there Simon starts to give her a strange scalp massage and she quickly realizes that he's hitting on her. Holly is in shock and doesn't know what to do. When she gets home, she tells Val about the uncomfortable situation and Val encourages her to report Simon's behavior to the salon owner.
Meanwhile, Val's cooking continues to be a disaster. She tries to make a lasagna for Jeff, but it turns out burnt and inedible. Jeff tries to be supportive, but eventually admits that the lasagna is terrible. In an effort to redeem herself, Val orders a fancy dinner from a nearby restaurant, but she accidentally drops it all over Jeff when she tries to serve it to him.
Back at the salon, Holly talks to the owner about Simon's behavior and he assures her that he'll deal with it. The owner also offers her a free haircut as an apology for what happened. Holly is initially hesitant to go back to the salon, but she ultimately decides to take him up on the offer. When she returns, Simon is nowhere to be found and Holly gets a great haircut from a new stylist named Rachel.
At the end of the episode, Val apologizes to Jeff for her terrible cooking and he forgives her. Holly thanks Val for her support during the incident with Simon at the salon and the two sisters bond over their respective mishaps. The episode ends with Holly showing off her new haircut and Val and Jeff enjoying a meal that they ordered from a restaurant.
Overall, "Split Ends" is a lighthearted episode that focuses on Holly's experience with a creepy hair stylist and Val's attempts at cooking. It's a good example of the show's blend of humor, romance, and sisterly bonding.
