Regina King, an award-winning actress, director, and producer, embarks on a journey to trace her ancestry and uncover her family's history in the third episode of the eleventh season of "Who Do You Think You Are?"

King begins her journey in Alabama, the birthplace of her grandmother Mildred. She seeks to learn more about her grandmother's family and their experiences during the era of segregation. King's investigation takes her to a county courthouse, where she uncovers her great-grandfather's 1935 criminal case and learns about the harsh realities of the Jim Crow era.

Next, King travels to Georgia, where she investigates her great-great-grandfather's life as a slave. She visits the former plantation where he lived and meets with a historian to learn about the harsh conditions of plantation life and the resilience of the enslaved people who lived there. King also traces her great-great-grandmother's roots to the Senegambia region of West Africa and learns about the culture and traditions of her ancestors.

King's journey takes her to South Carolina, where she uncovers her family's connection to the Civil War. She learns that her great-great-grandfather was a member of the U.S. Colored Troops, a regiment of African American soldiers. King follows in his footsteps by visiting Fort Sumter, the site of the first shots of the Civil War, and the Fort Moultrie National Park, where the U.S. Colored Troops played a significant role.

King ends her journey in New Orleans, where she learns about her family's history of activism and resistance. She uncovers the story of her grandmother's cousin, who was a prominent civil rights attorney and faced death threats for her work. King also learns about the Zulu Social Aid and Pleasure Club, a historic African American organization in New Orleans that promotes community development and cultural education.

Throughout her journey, King reflects on the resilience of her ancestors in the face of adversity and the importance of learning and preserving family history.
