Ep 11. Stairway to Heaven

Frank arrives drunk at Vinnie's house having found out that his wife, Jenny, an alcoholic with an irreversible liver disease, is going to die. Jenny's only hope for survival is a liver transplant, an option that is closed to her because of her age and alcoholism. Wanting to do something to help his friend, Vinnie presses for an increase in the government's insurance coverage but, except for some donations from his OCB colleagues, comes up empty-handed. When he meets with Jenny's doctor, Vinnie learns that with an unusually large donation to the hospital's research center, an exception to the transplant rules might be made and Jenny could get a new liver. After finding $1.25 million in cash on the front seat of his car, Frank confronts Vinnie about its source. Although he tries to convince Frank that he knows nothing about the money, Vinnie is forced to admit that it is his and that it was confiscated in an OCB operation. Frank presses Vinnie to return the cash and turn himself in but is finally convinced that it would be better used to save Jenny's life.
