XXXHolic Season 1 Episode 8 Contract

Watanuki is following Yuko around, trying to get her to uphold her end of the bargain made in the first episode, but her tasks are getting progressively harder. She sends him out to collect some eggs, which in itself is not too difficult, but he has to find the right chicken and somehow convince it to give him an egg. Meanwhile, a high school student named Kohane goes to Yuko for help with her ability to see ghosts. After being forced to perform for her mother's cult, she has become an object of obsession for her mother and others who believe that her ability is a source of power.

When Kohane first comes to Yuko, she is desperate for someone to help her with her ability. She has been plagued by ghosts her entire life and cannot seem to get any relief. Yuko, recognizing that her abilities could be dangerous if left unchecked, decides to teach her how to control them. However, before long, it becomes clear that Kohane's ability is not the only problem. She is being bullied at school, her mother is controlling and abusive, and her ability has drawn the attention of a dangerous group of people.

Watanuki, meanwhile, is struggling to complete his task. He first tries to bribe a chicken with some bread, but it doesn't work. Then, he tries to trick the chicken by replacing its egg with a fake one, but it sees through his ruse. Finally, he manages to find the right chicken and offers it some water in exchange for an egg. It works, and he's able to complete his task. However, he's left feeling frustrated and angry with Yuko for constantly sending him on these pointless errands.

As Kohane's situation becomes more dire, Yuko decides to take matters into her own hands. She confronts Kohane's mother and the other members of the cult, using her own powers to terrify them and force them to leave Kohane alone. Kohane is grateful for Yuko's help and asks her to teach her more about controlling her abilities. Yuko agrees, but warns her that there will always be people who want to use her powers for their own gain.

In the end, Watanuki learns an important lesson about the nature of Yuko's tasks. They may seem pointless and frustrating at first, but in the end, they always have a purpose. Yuko's actions in helping Kohane also demonstrate the importance of using one's own abilities to help others, even if it means confronting powerful and dangerous people. The episode ends with Watanuki feeling a sense of fulfillment and purpose, while Kohane begins to learn how to control her abilities and use them for good.
