Nura: Rise of the Yokai Clan (Nurarihyon no Mago, literally Nurarihyon's Grandchild) is a 26 episode anime produced by Studio Deen which ran from July 6, 2010 until December 21, 2010. Commonly abbreviated Nuramago, it was directed by Junji Nishimura, written by Natsuko Takahashi and was composed by Kohei Tanaka. It was licensed by Viz Media. During the Japanese airing it premiered on the Yomiuri TV, the Tokyo MX, the Chukyo TV and on the BS11 television networks.

Nura: Rise of the Yokai Clan was adapted from the manga of the same name written by Hiroshi Shibashi, which ran in Weekly Shonen Jump from March 2008 until June 2012. It ran for 22 volumes.

The anime stars Rikuo Nura, a seemingly normal high school student who is actually one quarter demon and lives in a mansion that is filled with spirits. His grandfather is the current head of the Nura Youkai Clan. Despite his grandfather's best wishes, he tries to escape his yokai fate by doing good deeds all around. Rikuo eventually takes up the position of young head of the Nura House. Other factions come up to take control, and it is up to Rikuo to gather friends and allies.

The anime features two opening themes, Fast Forward and Sunshine, both performed by Monkey Majik and the ending themes, Sparky Start and Symphonic Dream, are performed by Katate Size.

Nura: Rise of the Yokai Clan Full Episode Guide

  • A look back on past events as the Nura clan, led by Rikuo, and the Keikain onmyoji, led by Yura, each take on the powerful Kyoto yokai.

  • In order to defeat the powerful Abeno Seimei, the Nura clan yokai and Tono yokai entrust their power of a Hundred Demons to Rikuo.

  • Abeno Seimei has been resurrected back into this world. With the Devil's Blade in his hand, Seimei proclaims that he will build a demon capital ruled by darkness. Rikuo must stop Seimei at all costs, and the final showdown begins.

  • Rikuo is overwhelmed by Hagoromo-Gitsune's full power in her Nine-Tail form. Heavily beaten, Rikuo attempts to settle the score against the most powerful ayakashi by reaching out to the memories of the host possessed by Hagoromo-Gitsune.

  • Hagoromo-Gitsune has given birth to her son, Nue, and the Kyoto yokai rejoice. However, Rikuo realizes that the newborn Nue can still be stopped, and with help from Yura and Ryuji, he proceeds to attack.

  • Hagoromo-Gitsune is about to give birth inside Nijo Castle's Nuegaike pond. Rikuo and his allies race to stop Hagoromo-Gitsune from giving birth, but standing in their way is Kidomaru, who intends to prevent their advancement at all cost.

  • The battle between Rikuo and Tsuchi-Gumo reaches its climax. Meanwhile, Nurarihyon enters Nijo Castle to confront Hagoromo-Gitsune for the first time in 400 years, where he discovers the evil existence that the Kyoto yokai are trying to bring forth.

  • During his training with Gyuki, Rikuo learns that by accepting his human side, and believing in his allies, he can become stronger. Completing his training, Rikuo then sets out to save Tsurara from Tsuchi-Gumo by using the technique of the Lord of a Hundred Demons, "Equip."

  • As the battle in Kyoto intensifies, the Keikain onmyoji and the Nura clan yokai realize that only by working together can they become a match against the Kyoto yokai. Meanwhile, Rikuo continues his training at Mt. Kurama, where he must discover what is necessary to become stronger.

  • Hagoromo-Gitsune takes up residency in Nijo castle, having destroyed all eight of the onmyoji seals. Now, the onmyoji and Nura clan must try to get past the Kyoto yokai in order to reseal the area.

  • Rikuo is left severely beaten by Tsuchi-Gumo, when Gyuki arrives to take him to Mt. Kurama for treatment. There, Gyuki tells Rikuo that in order to become stronger, he must embrace his human side and surpass the "Fear" of his grandfather Nurarihyon.

  • Having reunited with Yura, Rikuo is introduced to Hidemoto Keikain, the 13th Heir. But the Keikain onmyoji and Nura clan members are suddenly attacked by Tsuchi-Gumo, an ayakashi who seeks only to fight the strongest.

  • At Fushime-Inari Shrine, Awashima the Amanojaku falls into a trap set by the Kyoto yokai 27-Faced-Senju-Mukade. Now, Awashima must use "Possession" to cut through the enemy's "Fear."

  • A look back on past events as the Nura Clan, Tono yokai, and Keikain onmyoji get ready for their upcoming showdown with Hagoromo-Gitsune and her Kyoto yokai.

  • The Nura Clan's Treasure Ship sustains heavy damage by the Kyoto yokai and begins to lose altitude, forcing Rikuo and his clan to make a desperate attempt to prevent it from crash landing in Kyoto.

  • The Kyoto yokai are moments away from fulfilling their long-standing wish with only one seal remaining to break. Meanwhile, Rikuo and his clan members on board the Treasure Ship are about to enter Kyoto from above when Hakuzozu, one of Hagoromo-Gitsune's yokai, gets in the way.

  • Yura and Ryuji are forced to fight Akifusa, whose strong desire to become the head of the Keikain Clan has led him to being taken control of by Hagoromo-Gitsune's yokai.

  • Rikuo completes his training and returns to Ukiyoe Town with the Tono yokai. Seeing the progress his grandson has made, Nurarihyon allows Rikuo to go to Kyoto, as well as promising him the title of the Nura Clan's Third Heir upon his safe return.

  • At Oshu-Tono's Hidden Village, Rikuo spends his days in intense training. Under his instructor Itaku's supervision, Rikuo slowly begins to master Kyokasuigetsu, the "Fear" of Nurarihyon.

  • Kiyotsugu proposes that the Kiyojuji Paranormal Patrol members visit Yura's home in Kyoto as part of a summer yokai research project. But when Rikuo tells Nurarihyon of his intentions to go to Kyoto, his grandfather's expression suddenly turns stern.

  • Nurarihyon enters Osaka Castle to rescue Princess Yo from Hagoromo-Gitsune, the Lord of Pandemonium. But Hagoromo-Gitsune, whose power grows through the number of times she has been reincarnated, overwhelms Nurarihyon with her immense powers.

  • During the era when the Toyotomi Clan ruled Japan, there lived a young woman known as Princess Yo, who could heal any wound or disease with her magical powers. Used as a tool for making money by her greedy father, Princess Yo was confined within the estate like a caged bird. Having taken an interest in the princess, a young Nurarihyon decides to sneak her off the estate.

  • Ryuji Keikain uses his Shikigami "Gyogen" to attack Rikuo, who defends himself with his blade. Ryuji halts his attack when he recognizes the blade as "Nenekirimaru," a Spirit Blade that can only cut down yokai. He then tells Yura, his sister, the real reason why he came to Ukiyoe Town.

  • Ryuji Keikain and Mamiru Keikain, two onmyoji who are powerful enough to take down even Aotabo, have arrived in Ukiyoe Town. Seeing all yokai as absolute evil, the two proceed to hunt down yokai when they encounter Rikuo and Yura.

  • Having lost his father at an early age, young Rikuo Nura aspires to become the Supreme Commander of yokai just like his grandfather and late father did. But Kiyotsugu, Rikuo's classmate, insults him by saying that yokai are beings who do bad things and are hated by everyone.
