In Army Wives season 1 episode 1, "A Tribe Is Born," viewers are introduced to the lives of several army wives living on a military base in South Carolina. The episode begins with the arrival of new Army wife, Roxy (played by Sally Pressman), who is eager to start her new life with her husband, PFC Trevor LeBlanc (played by Drew Fuller), after meeting and marrying him in less than a week. Roxy's outgoing personality quickly catches the attention of the other wives, who are curious about her past and motivations for marrying a soldier.

We also meet Claudia Joy (played by Kim Delaney), the prim and proper wife of Colonel Michael Holden (played by Brian McNamara), who is facing the challenges of raising a teenage daughter, Amanda (played by Kim Allen), while her husband is away on deployment. Claudia Joy is the leader of the wives' support group and is determined to keep the morale of the base high despite ongoing deployments and other challenges faced by military families.

Denise Sherwood (played by Catherine Bell) is a nurse and mother of two who lost her husband, Frank (played by Terry Serpico), in Iraq. Denise is struggling to find her place on the base and grieve the loss of her husband while raising her sons alone. She befriends newcomer Roxy, who helps her realize that she needs to find a way to move on and start living her life again.

Meanwhile, Pamela Moran (played by Brigid Brannagh) is a mother of two who is hiding a secret from her husband, Chase (played by Jeremy Davidson), who is also deployed. Pamela was once an Army helicopter pilot and is struggling with the decision to reenlist without her husband's approval.

Throughout the episode, the wives navigate the challenges of military life, including the constant uncertainty of their spouses' safety, the difficulties of raising children alone, and the pressure to maintain a sense of normalcy in an environment that is anything but. They also form a close bond with each other, referring to themselves as a "tribe" who support each other through thick and thin.

The episode ends with a cliffhanger as Roxy goes into labor and is rushed to the hospital, bringing the wives even closer together in their support for each other.

Overall, "A Tribe Is Born" sets the stage for the dramatic and emotional journey that these army wives will embark on throughout the course of the series, exploring the sacrifices and challenges faced by military families as they serve their country.
