Description:

Bored to death is a unique take on the private eye genre the show is about a man named Jonathan Ames (Jason Schwartzman), who is a struggling novelist/screenwriter who finds his career floundering somewhat, and his relationship with his girlfriend on the rocks so with an enormous amount of spare time on his hands he places an ad in craigslist advertising himself as a private investigator. He does is both for something to do and as a way of gaining inspiration for his next novel after solving his first two cases, relatively easily one of which involved a missing person and the other a cheating boyfriend he gets a much-needed boost in confidence and tries to reignite things with which his girlfriend but is entirely unsuccessful.

At which point he is given the opportunity to write for a famous Hollywood producer, but fails to produce any usable material before the deadline expires in the aftermath of the tragic occurrence. Jonathan agrees to take his ex-girlfriend to Brighton beach for the weekend, which he secretly hopes will give him the much-needed opportunity to get into her good graces but instead he ends up involved in a brand-new case, thereby ruining the evening, and chances of reaching the romance with his ex-girlfriend Jonathan does however manage to solve the case, thereby giving illegal in much-needed boost. Jonathan begins to find that he is much better at solving crimes and writing books and screenplays as a second book gets rejected. He finds himself leaning more and more towards being a full-time private eye. But ironically still have aspirations for being a famous novelist. So he begins to use his new found experiences as a private eye to write a series of crime novels/detective novels that although are keeping his skills as a writer as sharp as they possibly can be either unable to find them, a publishing home.

This only spurs Jonathan forward on the unlicensed detective side of things is this unlicensed detecting that leads him to a new relationship with a woman. Ironically, a woman that he is asked to investigate, because her partner suspect that she is having an affair to get things even more of a twist Jonathan is not at all aware that his friend is the other man which only add further complications to Jonathan's already discombobulated life.

Anyone who is a fan of the classic private eye genre of television and/or theater is sure to find some entertaining aspects to this program is a unique and fresh perspective on the private eye genre that has plenty of twists and turns comedic and otherwise to keep the viewer on the edge of their seat.
