Ep 9. Trust Me

When Jane Bingum, the brilliant yet curvaceous attorney, died in a car accident, she ended up in The Good Place. However, she was given a second chance to live when she hit the return key on operational computer of Fred, a guardian angel of The Good Place. Jane was sent back to Earth, but with a twist: she is now inhabiting the body of the vapid model known as Deb Dobkins. In season 5 episode 9 of Drop Dead Diva, named Trust Me, Jane must navigate the tricky world of deception and betrayal as a case breaks down before her eyes.

Our story begins with Jane trying to hide her disappointment as she loses a case. She is seen pouring over law books, trying to figure out where she went wrong. She asks her if she would potentially withhold information if it meant that her client would win the case. Kim has faced criticism for doing so in the past, and she’s curious to see if Jane would ever do the same. Jane is taken aback by this notion and expresses her concern. To her, being an attorney means telling the truth at all times, but her colleagues seem to have a different take on things.

Meanwhile, Grayson Kent, Jane’s former flame who is now with Kim, wants to talk to Jane about the cheating rumours surrounding Kim. He believes that Kim is being untruthful and is pursuing an affair with a client she represented in the past. Grayson wants Jane’s help in order to unveil the truth, so that he can be sure about moving forward in his relationship with Kim. Jane is hesitant to get involved in other people’s problems but promises to help anyway.

Jane also meets with her significant other, Owen, and discusses her concerns about how being a good person and an attorney seems to be two different things. When Owen suggests that they should break up, Jane is distraught. She didn’t want to lose him and is now forced to deal with her moral struggles alone.

As the case unfolds, Jane discovers something that doesn’t sit right with her. She realises that her client, the minister, might be lying. All of the evidence that was supposed to help him was in fact, fake, and tampered with. With this revelation, Jane must navigate the complex situation of being an attorney while still staying true to her moral compass. She's in a tough spot, and her job is on the line. In the end, Jane must make a difficult decision that could potentially put her entire career at risk as well as her love for Owen.
