Ep 2. Randy Get Your Gun

The show Enlisted follows three brothers, and soldiers, who find themselves reunited at a Florida army base. The second Episode of season one is named Randy Get Your Gun.

In this episode, Randy's platoon leader and brother, Pete's ex-girlfriend, Jill takes over the platoon, and Randy can't stop antagonizing her. As a result, Jill orders Randy to make better use of his talents and to help in training the platoon for an upcoming 25-mile race.

Meanwhile, Pete secretly helps Derrick study for Sergeant exam by giving him a copy of the test, but their plan goes awry when they accidentally lose the answers.

Furthermore, Cody deals with a difficult trainee named Dobkiss, who refuses to follow orders. Dobkiss takes every chance to push Cody's buttons and Cody struggles to find a way to connect with him.

During the training session for the race, Randy performs poorly, and this leads to friction between him and Jill. Things take an unexpected turn when Randy gets stung by a jellyfish and Jill has to help him. Despite this moment of closeness, when it comes to the final training run, Randy continues to underperform and Jill orders him to sit out the race.

Feeling defeated, Randy opens up to Derrick about his struggle with being the youngest and how he is always seen as the "little brother". Derrick offers him some perspective and Randy decides to do his best in the race all the same. In the end, he finishes last, but he still holds his head high and gains the respect of his fellow soldiers.

Meanwhile, Pete and Derrick's plan to pass the Sergeant exam backfires badly when Cody accidentally drops the answer sheet in the mud. Pete decides to come clean and confronts Jill about what they have done. In a surprising twist, Jill tells him that she knew all along and is glad that he tried to help. As punishment, the test has to be retaken, but both Derrick and Pete ultimately pass.

In a separate scene, Dobkiss finally realizes the importance of following orders and apologizes to Cody. Cody forgives him, and the two of them finally start making progress in their relationship.

Overall, Randy's character arc takes center stage in this episode, as he tries to break free of being seen as the little brother and prove himself as a competent soldier. Alongside this, the relationship between Pete, Derrick, and Jill is also explored, with the brothers learning that sometimes honesty is always the best policy.
