In Hill Street Blues season 1 episode 2, titled "Presidential Fever," the officers of the Hill Street precinct are buzzing with excitement as they prepare for the President's motorcade to pass through their district. Captain Frank Furillo (played by Daniel J. Travanti) is tasked with coordinating the precinct's security measures for the visit, while also dealing with the usual daily chaos that comes with policing a busy urban area. One of the more pressing matters at hand is the case of a young woman who has been raped and is now being taunted by her attacker. Detectives Mick Belker (played by Bruce Weitz) and J.D. LaRue (played by Kiel Martin) try to track down the perpetrator, assisted by the victim's sister. Meanwhile, Officer Bobby Hill (played by Michael Warren) faces a dilemma when a former high school acquaintance shows up at the precinct, claiming to have information about a major drug deal. Bobby must decide whether to trust the informant and risk his job, or let the opportunity slip away. As the motorcade draws nearer, tensions rise and the officers scramble to keep the peace amidst a throng of protesters and curious onlookers. The excitement and chaos of the Presidential visit provide the backdrop for a tense and action-packed episode, as the Hill Street Blues ensemble cast continues to develop their characters and their relationships with one another.
