Ep 12. The Mayan Apocalypse

Marty, Jeannie, and Clyde travel to Kaan & Associates’ New York office to present their findings on a pharmaceutical company called Kinsley-Johnson. The data shows that Kinsley-Johnson has been manipulating clinical drug trials to gain government approval of drugs that could be harmful to patients. Surprisingly, Galweather & Stearn have partnered with Kinsley-Johnson, and the two companies are working together to promote a drug called Hesperian, which is set to launch in a few months.

Marty is conflicted about whether to expose Kinsley-Johnson’s wrongdoing to the public and ruin the Hesperian launch or keep quiet and continue to profit from the partnership. His decision becomes complicated when he meets Monica, a brilliant doctor who works for Kinsley-Johnson and asks him for help to stop the launch of Hesperian. Monica’s research indicates that the drug will be disastrous for patients and could have severe side effects.

Meanwhile, Jeannie is still dealing with the aftermath of her break-up with Wes; she discovers that her ex is now dating Caitlin, and she is not happy about it. Clyde, on the other hand, is trying to get invited to a fancy party where all the big players in the pharmaceutical world will be in attendance. His plan is to flaunt his connections and make himself irresistible to potential clients.

As the team prepares to make their presentation to the Kaan & Associates New York team, Marty struggles with his conscience about whether or not to expose Kinsley-Johnson. When they arrive at the office, they are surprised to find that the team is more interested in throwing an end-of-the-world party to celebrate the supposed Mayan Apocalypse. The team spends the night partying instead of listening to the damning evidence against Kinsley-Johnson.

The next day, Marty and his team meet with Lukas, the head of Kaan & Associates’ New York office, to present their findings. Lukas seems uninterested in the presentation, and Marty realizes that they have been set up. Kinsley-Johnson has been paying Kaan & Associates a lot of money, and they have no intention of severing their ties with the pharmaceutical giant. The team is left empty-handed and frustrated.

Marty is still struggling with the decision of whether or not to expose Kinsley-Johnson, and Jeannie encourages him to do what’s right and protect the public’s health. In the end, Marty decides to expose Kinsley-Johnson’s wrongdoing to the public, even though it means losing Kinsley-Johnson as a client and the Hesperian launch. He knows that Monica’s research is sound, and he can’t in good conscience participate in promoting a drug that could harm patients.

The Mayan Apocalypse episode ends with Galweather & Stearn in turmoil after their exposure of Kinsley-Johnson’s unethical practices left them with only one client – the stripper agency, Dolls & Roses. Jeannie is still dealing with her feelings for Wes, and Clyde is still trying to find his way into the big leagues. However, Marty is at peace with his decision to do what’s right, and the team is stronger for it.
