In the season 7 finale of How I Met Your Mother, titled "The Magician's Code - Part 2," Ted is in the process of meeting the mother of his children. With the wedding between Barney and Robin quickly approaching, tensions are high as the gang prepares for the big day.
Throughout the episode, we see various interactions between Ted and the mother. They meet at the train station, where Ted helps her with her guitar and they bond over their shared love of The Proclaimers. Later, they have a chance encounter at the hotel where Barney and Robin's wedding is taking place and spend some time getting to know each other.
Meanwhile, throughout the episode, Barney is trying to find a way to tell Robin that he loves her. He enlists the help of Lily, who poses as Robin's bridal shower planner in order to get her alone and confess his feelings. However, things don't go as planned and Robin storms out of the event.
Back at the hotel, Marshall and Lily are dealing with the aftermath of Marvin's birth. They're struggling to balance being new parents and being there for their friends on their big day. In one touching scene, Lily delivers a heartwarming speech to the group about the importance of friendship and how they'll always be there for each other, even when things get tough.
As the episode comes to a close, Barney and Robin finally have their moment. After a video call with Ted, where he hilariously trolls them both, they have a heart-to-heart about their feelings for each other. Barney tells Robin that he loves her and she reciprocates, making for a truly romantic moment.
The episode ends with Ted heading to Robin's hotel room, where he knocks on the door and says "hi" to the mother of his children. The camera pans up to show her face, leaving audiences eager for the next season to see how their story unfolds.
