The Big Break is a reality golf game show that pits amateur golfers, and some professionals, against each other in an effort to find the best up and comer. The winner of the show is awarded with numerous different prizes, including entrance into professional golf tournaments. The show has traveled to many different locales and features golfers from all around the world.

The competitive format is fairly simple and easy to grasp. Each week the golfers undergo many different challenges. Each week, the weakest performance is eliminated until finally the last one remains, successfully winning The Big Break. There are several different challenges in a week the golfers participate in. The Glass-breaking challenge is a contest in which contestants hit balls towards panes of glass with contestants names on them hoping to shatter it. This challenge alone has been used in multiple ways, and continues to undergo changes every few seasons.

Mulligan Challenges offer unique and crazy golf games, that if won, gives the player a mulligan to use in a later challenge if one messes up during a challenge. The Skills Challenge, also known as the immunity challenge, again presents unique golf games that when won gives immunity to the winner from the Elimination Challenge. The Elimination Challenge is the final challenge each week, and determines which contestant is eliminated from the game. This is the challenge that the Skills Challenge winner is exempt from, and they do not have to worry about being eliminated in that week.

At the seasons end, only two golfers remain and are pitted against each other in the Matchplay Final. The winner of this challenge is also the winner of the season. The winner then gets to select the Tournaments they wish to enter as well as the other prizes offered to them.
