Watch Fair Game

The movie Fair Games is a drama that stars Naomi Watts and Sean Penn. The movie is based off the lives of Valerie Plame and Joseph Wilson who both wrote a book about Plame’s time working as a spy in the CIA. This movie is based off of events from their books. The story follow Plame as she became employed with the Central Intelligence Agency. No one outside her family knew what she did for a living. Over her career she was often involved in dangerous operations overseas. Wilson was a diplomat to both Gabon and Niger. He is sent on a mission to see if Iraq was producing yellowcake uranium for weapons. He found that they were not. In 2003 George W. Bush stated that Iraq was building these weapons. Wilson took it upon himself to write a piece for a well known newspaper stating this was not true.

After the report is published it was leaked to the media that Plame was a CIA agent. She comes to believe someone from the White House let this information out. She is let go from the CIA for safety reasons. After being removed from work Plame leaves Wilson. She is angry that he has been giving interviews. They end up getting back together to soften the blow from the White House. Plame testifies before Congress about what she knew.

The movie was shot in both New York City and Washington D.C. It was first shown at the Abu Dhabi film festival. There are some differences between the movie and the real life story. There is still a debt going around with political if Wilson really was looking for uranium in Iraq and if there was a valid reason to think they had it. The person in the movie who leaked Plame’s name was not the same person in real life.
