Sam Neil, William Macy, and Tea Leone star in this third installment of the classic dinosaur franchise. Jurassic Park III tells the story of Paul and Amanda Kirby (Macy and Leone) who want to rescue their son Eric from Isla Sorna in Central America, where he disappeared 8 weeks before. Turns out, Isla Sorna was a third dinosaur site for the company InGen to experiment with the cloning and regeneration of long-extinct dinosaurs. It is in a now restricted zone and no government or other agency will help the Kirbys. The movie opens with Dr. Alan Grant (Sam Neil) giving a lecture on dinosaurs to a packed hall. When he calls for questions, everyone wants to know about Jurassic Park and his experiences there. Exasperated, he finally tells them he believes the re-created dinosaurs to be monsters and has no interest in going to any island where they might be. Meanwhile, his university is running low on funds and threatening to cut the paleontology budget. Enter Paul and Amanda Kirby. Desperate for help rescuing their son, the divorced Kirbys travel to Dr. Grant’s Montana excavation site pleading with him to be their guide on a once in a lifetime flight over Isla Sorna. They tell them they are rich business owners wanting to take the anniversary trip of a lifetime and offer Grant a program-saving check in payment for his services as a tour guide on a flight over the island and promise him they will not land. Grant’s graduate assistant Billy (Trevor Martin) convinces him that it’s worth the money and the two paleontologists set off with the Kirbys and their crew of mercenaries on a flight over the dangerous island. It quickly becomes clear that this trip is no second honeymoon! They end up crash landed on the island and the true reason for their visit is revealed. They find the remains of Amanda’s friend Ben and evidence that the Kirbys son Eric survived the initial crash. Grant, however, is not convinced that Eric could have lived so long alone on the island and urges everyone to head to the coast so that they may be rescued. The group is in constant danger. They are in turns pursued by spinosaurus, tyrannosaurus rex, pteranodons, and of course, the velociraptors. The film wraps up with enough of an opening for future Jurassic Park movies.
