Meet Steve Barker, a nice guy who after listening to motivational tapes finds the courage to ask his boss for a raise. Steve gets the raise, but with a condition, he has to fire the company's long time janitor Stavi. Steve is such a nice guy, he can't find it in his heart to just fire the guy and let him go. Steve hires Stavi as his gardener to mow his lawn, and pick up trash.

No good deed goes unpunished, and it isn't long before tragedy strikes, Stavi has an accident with the mower and is rushed to the hospital.

Stavi does not have insurance, and Steve is responsible for Stavi's medical costs. Without the surgery, Stavi will be left with fewer digest on his hand, and no way to support his family.

Steve tries to find ways to get money quickly and gets his uncle Gary involved. Uncle Gary is into gambling, and horse races, and currently in trouble with his bookies. Not all is lost, Gary has a way to get himself out of the clutches of the evil bookies, and help Steve raise the money for his friend's operation. Gary's plan, rig the Special Olympics by pretending to be one of them.

Steve is disgusted with his uncle's low and deplorable scheme. Steve's uncle tries to point out to him that he could easily win, since he's a former track star. Steve gives in to Gary and they both dress him for the part and have him pretend to talk like one who is mentally disabled.

Steve makes it into the Special Olympics, but his fellow athletes don't buy his story. They think Steve talks funny and they call him out and start to beat him up. Steve tells them why he's there and offers to leave, but they want him to stay. Despite how it sounds, the film is funny and inspiring at the same time.
