The Upside of Anger is a family drama which also has elements of comedy and romance intertwined in the narrative. It stars Joan Allen as Terry Wolfmeyer, a strong-willed mother of four strong-willed daughters. When her husband suddenly and unexpectedly disappears, it is up to Terry to keep the family together and raise her daughters.

Kevin Costner plays Denny, a former baseball player who was a superstar in the day, but is now an alcoholic, pot smoking radio D.J. with very few motivations in life. Denny and Terry begin a flirtation built on hatred at first, but the relationship soon turns romantic which creates dissension among Terry's daughters. Some embrace Denny in this new role; others reject him as a father figure.

All the while, some of the daughters are struggling with their own romantic life, causing a number of complications along the way.

The Upside of Anger was directed by Mike Binder, who wrote and also stars as Denny's D.J. partner, Shep.
