Menma's friends are still struggling with her death and the guilt they feel over it. Jintan, the main character, is plagued with guilt and unresolved feelings for Menma after her death. The group starts to work together to achieve Menma's wish, which they believe will help her spirit find peace and allow her to move on. They must first decipher a cryptic message that Menma left and gather the items needed to fulfill her wish.

In episode 2, titled The Hero Menma, the group is still trying to figure out how to fulfill Menma's wish. Jintan, Menma's childhood friend, is particularly haunted by the memory of her death. He spends his days skipping school and avoiding contact with his former friends. One day, he runs into Anaru, another friend of Menma's, who tries to encourage him to return to school. Jintan is conflicted, however, as he doesn't feel ready to face the outside world.

Meanwhile, Menma's other friends are making progress towards deciphering the message she left. They believe that she wants to hold a fireworks display and are gathering the materials needed to make it happen. Their efforts are impeded, however, by Yukiatsu, another member of their group who is still reeling from Menma's death. Yukiatsu is trying to cope with his guilt and sorrow by pretending to be Menma, wearing her old clothes and speaking as if he is her. This behavior is causing tension within the group, especially as they try to work towards fulfilling Menma's wish.

As the group continues to work on the fireworks, they start to notice unusual occurrences happening around them. Objects move on their own, and strange noises can be heard. Eventually, they realize that Menma's spirit is trying to communicate with them. The group is initially hesitant to believe it, but they eventually come around when they are confronted with undeniable evidence of her presence.

Jintan is still struggling to come to terms with his feelings for Menma and his guilt over her death. He has vivid memories of their time together and is haunted by the fact that he can't seem to move on. Eventually, he opens up to Anaru, admitting that he feels responsible for Menma's death. Anaru tries to console him, but Jintan is inconsolable. He feels that Menma's death was his fault and that he will never be able to make it up to her.

As the episode draws to a close, the group is still working towards fulfilling Menma's wish. They are making progress, but there are still obstacles in their way. Yukiatsu's behavior continues to be a source of tension, and Jintan is still struggling to cope with Menma's death. The stage is set for an emotional and moving climax as the group tries to come to terms with their grief and fulfill Menma's final wish.

Overall, The Hero Menma is an emotional and thought-provoking episode that delves deeper into the psyche of the show's characters. It highlights the ways in which grief can affect people differently and the challenges that come with trying to move on from a tragedy. This episode sets the stage for a powerful and emotional conclusion to the show's first season.
