Once there was "The Beverly Hillbillies" which featured a fictional Tennessee family striking oil on their mountain property. Now there is "Backyard Oil." "Backyard Oil" is a television series that debuted on the Discovery Channel. This is another reality show that is now following in the footsteps of many popular scripted shows. The theme is based on the discovery of oil strikes in the backyards of Appalachian Territory. Jimmy Reliford is one of the Appalachian residents that has begun to cash in on this valuable natural resource. His own oil fortune was discovered right in his community and he knows how to make those profits add up quickly. Thus the name of the show "Backyard Oil." Naturally it stands to reason that Reliford is also a man of personality. You just could not have a television series unless you have a little of that "star quality." While Jimmy Reliford is the local magnate he is not the only star on the show. Mad Dog is the name of Reliford's main sidekick. Rascal is an older Appalachian resident who searches for oil with dowsing sticks. These sticks are not made from bent willow twigs. Rascal has gone more high-tech and chosen brass rods to help him tell others where the underground crude is located. Another team of oil searchers is named the Page Boys. This duo is composed of a father and his son. While these individuals desperately want to find a "gusher" of oil their bickering is made to order for viewing audiences. Never judge these television stars by their grammar and mannerisms. Proper English may not be part of their typical arsenal but these are shrewdly clever men who are dedicated to a singular mission. Finding Appalachian oil at any cost. The plot may revolve around locating a big oil strike but there are plenty of laughs and misadventures to keep you anxiously awaiting each upcoming episode.
