Assumpta?s marriage to Leo (James Nesbitt) is leading them both to question their future together. The appearance of young Nainsi Maguire (Antoine Byrne) in the village causes consternation to some of the older inhabitants-particularly Father MacAnally, who is still taking it easy after his heart attack, and shopkeeper Kathleen. Nainsi is looking for her sister, Eileen, who disappeared in 1975 after working for the priest as his housekeeper. She discovers that Eileen left after she became pregnant. But who was the father? And what secret will Nainsi discover during her search? Vet Siobhan Mehigan is astonished to discover that she is pregnant, the result of one of her occasional bouts of passion with teacher Brendan Kearney, who has been invited to apply for the post of head teacher at a Dublin school. Siobhan is facing motherhood for the first time in her 40s, but first she has to tell Brendan the news. "You?re aware that this will come as a shock to a lot of people round here," smiles Dr. Michael Ryan after confirming Siobhan?s diagnosis. "Doctor," says Siobhan, "Round teabags would come as a shock to some of the people round here." Father Peter is more sanguine, "It?s an opportunity not granted to everyone," he tells her. Brian Quigley seems to have done a disappearing act, leaving Peter and his daughter, Niamh, to cope with abusive tenants and his business arrangements.
