In the second episode of Bizarre Foods America season 5, host Andrew Zimmern travels to Cambodia to explore the country's unique cuisine. Zimmern begins his journey in the capital city of Phnom Penh, where he samples some of the city's street food offerings, including tarantulas and cricket kebabs.
Next, Zimmern heads to the countryside to learn about traditional Khmer cooking. He visits a family farm, where he helps harvest vegetables and prepares a meal with the family using a traditional charcoal stove. Zimmern also tries his hand at using a bamboo shoot to turn a coconut into a cooking vessel.
Zimmern's next stop is Siem Reap, the gateway to Angkor Wat, one of the world's most famous temple complexes. Here, he meets with a local chef who takes him to a rural village to learn about cooking with water buffalo milk. Zimmern participates in the milking process before helping the chef prepare a traditional rice dish cooked in the milk.
One of the highlights of Zimmern's trip to Cambodia is his visit to the floating villages on Tonle Sap Lake. Here, he meets with a family who shows him how to prepare a variety of fish dishes using freshwater fish caught from the lake. Zimmern also samples some of the unusual local delicacies, including pickled frogs and baby duck eggs.
Finally, Zimmern travels to the city of Battambang to learn about Cambodia's famous street food scene. He visits a busy night market, where he samples a wide range of dishes including beef skewers, raw beef salad, and frog soup.
Throughout his trip, Zimmern is impressed by the warmth and hospitality of the Cambodian people. He learns about the importance of food in Cambodian culture and the way it brings families and communities together. By the end of his journey, Zimmern has gained a deep appreciation for Cambodia's rich culinary traditions and the people who maintain them.
