On this episode of Bizarre Foods America, host Andrew Zimmern travels to Pennsylvania to explore the unique and eclectic cuisine that the state has to offer. From Amish country to the big city of Philadelphia, Zimmern indulges in some of the most unusual and fascinating foods the state has to offer.

The episode begins in Lancaster County, home to the largest Amish community in the country. Zimmern visits an Amish farm and helps with the daily chores, including milking cows and feeding pigs. He then joins the family for a traditional Amish breakfast of scrapple, a Pennsylvania Dutch specialty made from pork scraps and cornmeal.

Next, Zimmern travels to Philadelphia, where he meets up with Chef Marc Vetri at his Italian restaurant. Vetri takes Zimmern on a tour of the city's famous Reading Terminal Market, where they sample some of the iconic Philly foods like cheesesteaks and soft pretzels. They also check out some lesser-known delicacies like roast pork sandwiches and scrapple hash.

In the heart of Philadelphia's Chinatown, Zimmern tries some authentic Chinese cuisine like spicy Szechuan hot pot and crispy pork belly. He then heads to South Philly to sample some classic Italian-American dishes at Sarcone's Deli, including the famous roast beef and roasted red pepper sandwich.

Moving on to the suburbs of Philadelphia, Zimmern visits a farm that specializes in raising heritage breed pigs. He learns about the different breeds and the unique qualities of their meat before indulging in a feast of pork-centric dishes like slow-roasted pork shoulder and crispy pig ears.

Back in Amish country, Zimmern visits an Amish market where he samples some traditional foods like pickled beets, chow chow, and shoofly pie. He also tries some less common items like head cheese and liverwurst.

Finally, Zimmern heads to Pittsburgh, where he explores the city's diverse food scene. He visits a Lebanese restaurant to sample some authentic Middle Eastern cuisine before devouring a Primanti Bros. sandwich, a Pittsburgh classic made with meat, cheese, french fries, and coleslaw all piled high on Italian bread.

Throughout the episode, Zimmern showcases the diversity and richness of Pennsylvania's cuisine, from the traditional to the unexpected. From the Amish farms to the bustling cities, Pennsylvania proves to be a foodie's paradise with something for everyone to enjoy.
