The popular crime drama series Blue Bloods follows the lives of the Reagan family, who are all involved in law enforcement in some way. The show is known for its strong writing, powerful acting, and attention to detail when it comes to the police procedural aspects of the show. In season 2 episode 1, titled "Mercy," the Reagan family is forced to confront some difficult issues involving the NYPD and the people they serve.

The episode opens with a brutal assault on a subway platform. Jamie Reagan (Will Estes), a rookie NYPD officer, witnesses the attack and intervenes. He is able to apprehend the assailant, but not before several innocent bystanders are injured. The incident sets off a chain of events that will test Jamie's resolve, as well as that of the entire Reagan family.

Jamie's partner, Vinny (Sebastian Sozzi), is injured during the incident and rushed to the hospital. Jamie is left to deal with the aftermath of the attack, which includes meeting with the injured bystanders and coordinating with his fellow officers to find the suspect's accomplice. The situation is made even more complicated when one of the injured bystanders dies, leading to a public outcry and media frenzy.

Meanwhile, Danny Reagan (Donnie Wahlberg), a detective with the NYPD, is working on a separate case involving a drug dealer who has been linked to several murders. The case takes a turn when Danny discovers that his own son, Sean, has been hanging out with the drug dealer's son. Danny must navigate the difficult terrain of being both a detective and a father, as he tries to protect his son from the dangers of the criminal underworld. His investigation leads him to one of the Reagan family's oldest enemies, who happens to be the only person who can help him crack the case.

Elsewhere, the Reagan family is grappling with some personal issues. Frank Reagan (Tom Selleck), the Police Commissioner of New York City and patriarch of the family, is dealing with a budget crisis that threatens to cut funding for the NYPD. His daughter, Erin (Bridget Moynahan), who works as an assistant district attorney, is struggling with a difficult case involving a young girl who has been sexually abused by her stepfather. And Linda (Amy Carlson), Danny's wife, is dealing with the aftermath of a devastating tragedy.

Overall, "Mercy" is a tense and emotional episode that deals with some heavy issues. The show does a great job of balancing the personal drama of the Reagan family with the procedural aspects of police work. The acting is strong across the board, and the writing is sharp and nuanced. If you're a fan of crime dramas or police procedurals, you won't want to miss this episode of Blue Bloods.
