Ep 2. Domestic Disturbance

Danny and Jackie are undercover in a domestic violence case involving a young couple. The woman, Gwen, is a victim of physical abuse from her husband, Larry. As Danny and Jackie investigate, they find that Gwen is not willing to press charges against Larry and is still devoted to him despite the abuse she has suffered. However, Gwen’s mother, Margaret, encourages her to leave Larry and press charges. She also tells Danny and Jackie that she witnessed Larry hitting her daughter.

Meanwhile, Frank is dealing with a crisis within his own family. His granddaughter, Nicky, has been arrested for drugs possession, and Frank is horrified to have to bail her out of jail. He confronts her about the situation and tries to find out why she has been hanging out with a bad crowd. When Nicky is released from jail, she tells Frank that she was just experimenting and that she will stay away from drugs in the future.

Back on the domestic violence case, Danny and Jackie try to convince Gwen to press charges against Larry, but she is still reluctant. They eventually find evidence that may help them build a case against Larry and also reveal that he is a repeat offender. At the same time, Margaret finds out that Gwen is pregnant and tells her that she will not raise a child in an abusive environment.

The case comes to a head when Larry confronts Gwen at their apartment. Danny and Jackie move in to arrest him, but he resists and a fight ensues. In the end, they manage to subdue Larry and take him into custody. Gwen agrees to press charges against him and also files for a restraining order. Margaret is relieved that her daughter will finally be safe and feels that justice has been served.

In the aftermath of the case, Danny and Jackie reflect on the difficult nature of their job and the fact that they are often unable to help everyone they encounter. Frank also reassures Nicky that she has his support and tells her that she can always come to him if she needs help. The episode ends with the Reagan family gathered around the dinner table, grateful for each other and the important work they do in their respective roles.
