Meanwhile, Cory's parents give him a tape of his childhood birthday parties as a gift, and he becomes increasingly depressed as he watches them, realizing that he has lost his childhood and feels unsure of his future. His friends try to cheer him up, but he remains melancholy and even begins to develop a cold.
As the party approaches, Topanga, Cory, and Eric have a difficult time finding a location that will allow them to host the event, but eventually settle on a local boxing gym. But when they arrive at the gym, they find that Shawn is not there, and the situation quickly spirals out of control as a group of 400-pound men take over the gym and refuse to let anyone else in.
The gang is initially hesitant to confront the men, but after a while, they decide that they need to stand up for their friend and demand that the gym be cleared out. The group's determination causes the men to eventually leave, clearing the way for Shawn's party to begin.
Despite the chaotic start to the celebration, Shawn ultimately has a great time, reveling in the attention and good cheer of his friends. Cory, meanwhile, realizes that he should not be so concerned about growing up too fast and instead should enjoy his youth while he still has it.
