In Building Wild season 1 episode 5, entitled "Log Jam," the team faces a challenging project as they try to create a custom home on a rocky terrain. The team consists of Paulie, a master designer and engineer, and Pat, an expert builder, who work together to build these custom homes in the most remote areas.

In this episode, the duo heads to West Virginia to build a log cabin house for a couple who has recently retired. The couple has a dream of living in a secluded log cabin in the woods. The plot of land the couple wants their cabin built on is situated between two hills, making it difficult to reach by road. The area also has a lot of rocks to deal with, which will make the building process even more demanding.

To add to the challenge, a heavy rainstorm is forecasted, which could lead to flooding. But despite the odds, the team remains optimistic. Paulie and Pat decide to use the natural resources in the area to build the house, including the timber and rocks. They begin the project by cutting down trees to use as the base for the house. Paulie then uses his engineering expertise to form the plan; a vertical log foundation will hold the house.

Once the foundation is set, Pat begins to build the log walls. To keep the house sturdy, the team secures the logs with metal plates. For the roofing, the team uses thick insulation and pine boards to create an energy-efficient and insulated roof. Paulie then designs a unique chimney and fireplace made from stone gathered from around the mountain.

As they continue with construction, the team faces more challenges. One of the biggest challenges is the high water levels from the rainstorm, which makes it difficult to move materials and equipment up to the site of the house. The nearby river has flooded and put enormous amounts of debris in their pathway, so they must devise a solution to clear the area and get back to work.

After several days of hard work, the team succeeds in finishing the home. The finished product is a picturesque log cabin that blends in perfectly with the surroundings. The team incorporates plenty of windows to allow natural sunlight inside the cabin and provide a view of the beautiful scenery outside. Inside the cabin, the team adds all the modern-day amenities like a functional kitchen, a comfortable living room, and a cozy fireplace.

Watching Paulie and Pat work their magic and transform the materials that nature has gifted them into a livable home is a reminder that anything is possible with hard work and perseverance. Despite the challenges that the West Virginia terrain throws at them, Paulie and Pat accomplish the nearly impossible feat. Building Wild season 1 episode 5, "Log Jam," is a testament to the human spirit and its ability to conquer any challenge.
